Schedule of the competition 2017

 

Personal applications for applicants without their own pianist:

Monday, April 17, 2017 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.

 

in the Competition's Administration Office ,

Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Vienna

 

At the time of registration, each participant will draw a number designating the order of appearance and will receive an exact rehearsal time on April 17, 2017 with an accompanist. (For each applicant approximately 45 min.)

 

Personal applications for applicants with their own pianist:

April 17, 2017 from 3.30 - 5.30 p.m.

It is essential that each participant adheres exactly to his/her timetable!

Applicants who have not registered by 5.30 p.m on April 17, 2017 will not be admitted to the Competition. Applicants who for last-minute unforeseen reasons are unable to meet this deadline are requested to urgently phone the Competition's office on +43/664/2302093.

Tuesday, April 18, 2017: 1st round for participants (1st part)

11:45 a.m. – 2:15p.m.: competition

2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.: interval

3:15 p.m.- ca. 6:00 p.m.: continuation of competition

 

Wednesday, April 19, 2017: 1st round for participants (2nd part)

11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: competition

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: interval

2:30 p.m. - ca. 6:00 p.m.: continuation of competition

(optional 30 min. interval at 4:30 p.m.)

announcement of results: around 6:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 20, 2017: 2nd round for participants

11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: competition

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: interval

2:30 p.m. - ca. 6:00 p.m.: competition

(optional 30 min. interval at 4:30 p.m.)

announcement of results: around 8:00 p.m.

 

Friday, April 21, 2017: The whole day is free for competition participants!

Rehearsal rooms are available for participants at the University for Music, Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Vienna from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

Saturday, April 22, 2017: 3rd round/Finale 6:00 p.m.

10:30 a.m.-1.00 p.m.: Gläserner Saal/Wiener Musikverein, Bösendorferstrasse 12, 1010 Wien. General rehearsal for final participants.

 

18.00h: 3rd round / Finale, Gläserner Saal, Wiener Musikverein

 

Interval after the concert followed by the nominations of the winners.

Required Repertoire
12 pieces representing 4 epochs (Barock, Classic, Romantic, Contemporary Music) in minimum three languages (German and Italian are compulsory, the third language is free choice) and minimum 3 epochs.


The competition repertoire consists of compulsory pieces and pieces of free choice:


compulsory pieces
1 aria from an opera or oratorio from W.A.Mozart
1 aria or art song from the 2nd Wiener Schule (Schönberg, Berg or Webern)
4 pieces of Contemporary Music composed after 1970: 2 compositions from Sofia Gubaidulina >>, Johanna Doderer >>, Rosalinde Page >> and Nancy Van de Vate >>.
2 compositions from any other composer after 1970 (f.e.: Pierre Boulez,
Benjamin Britten, John Cage, Friedrich Cerha, Peter Eötvös, Hans Werner Henze, Ernst Krenek, György Ligeti, Luigi Nono, Krzysztof Penderecki,
Wolfgang Rihm, Gottfried von Einem, Ivan Eröd, Herwig Reiter a.o.)

Make sure to indicate the year of composition. Pieces, which were specially composed for applicants to attend this competition are welcome.

 

Proposals for compositions after 1970 >>


pieces of free choice
3 arias from Opera and/or Oratorio
3 art songs from the epochs Barock, Classic, Romantic or
Contemporary Music
All works must be sung from memory! In each round, one piece of Contemporary Music is required! From every art song cycle only one piece may be sung.
The jury will check your required repertoire.

 

1st round:

2 pieces. The Participants may start with a piece of his/her choice. The second piece will be selected by the Jury. One of these pieces has to be a piece of Contemporary music (composed after 1970)

The jury may consider to interrupt during the 2nd piece. Please understand, that this is no sign of a good nor less good performance, it just means that the jury has heard enough to judge your performance.

 

2nd round:

3 pieces. (1 aria, 1 art song, 1 contemporary piece)

Pieces are selected by the jury and will be announced the evening before.

 

3rd round/ Finale:

4 pieces. (1 arias, 1 art song, 2 contemporary piece) Subject to change!

The pieces are selected by the jury and will be announced with the result of the 2nd round. The participant may choose the order of performance.

 

The jury may also choose pieces already performed during the first two rounds.
